The Goodwood Festival of Speed which takes place from Thursday 1- Sunday 4 July 2010, many super cars got together and invited his fans to see directly. McLaren MP4-12C provide an opportunity for the fans to see McLaren’s new supercar in action as reigning F1 champion Jenson Button and 2008 F1 champion Lewis Hamilton will drive the MP4-12C up Goodwood Hill on Saturday and Sunday respectively in the Supercar Run.
Jenson and Lewis will now get behind the wheel of the newer (as in further developed) VP9 Validation Prototype car. McLaren said that the latest prototype version will be finished in a ‘traditional’ orange hue and ride on lightweight forged alloy wheels in a Stealth finish, adding that the car will feature a carbon fibre splitter, diffuser, engine covers, engine bay panels and seat backs.
Get ready to head off next year. The new McLaren MP4-12C powered by a mid-mounted 3.8 liter V8 with 600HP, the new MP4-12C will go on sale in Spring 2011.
McLaren has not yet released pricing on the MP4-12C, but the company stated that it will compete with cars in the ‘core’ high performance sports car sector, priced between £125,000-£175,000.
2010 McLaren F1 is celebrating its twentieth birthday. And to celebrate, McLaren invited owners out to Woking for a dinner at its Technology Center. The highlight of the get-together has to have been the 21-car F1 roundup, featuring the largest collection of F1s ever seen together.
The F1 is a technological tour-de-force and a real triumph in terms of packaging and design. McLaren chairman (and anti-Bugatti spokesman) Ron Dennis was on-hand to express his own feelings about owning and driving the car.
After conducting tests, racing or on road, it is supremely fast, agile and yet comfortable. Its styling is enduring and will never fade. The F1 remains one of McLaren’s proudest achievements.
Over its twenty years on Earth, the F1 has spawned 72 road cars (64 F1s, 5 F1 LMs, and 3 F1 GTs), 28 racers (F1 GTRs), and 6 other prototypes. The F1 GTR took just three months to develop, and the 28 examples McLaren built were big time winners: the 1995 GT1 Championship and the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans (1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 13th places), both its debut seasons.
The five cars that finished at Le Mans were the inspiration for the five Papaya Orange F1 LMs, which get a “de-restricted engine” putting out 680 horsepower. A further competition version came in the form of the 1997 GTR with longer nose and tail sections for increased downforce.
Car Show quoted bit is happening at the McLaren Technical Center in Surrey last December for a private viewing of the pre-production MP4-12C. The automotive division was officially launched and more tantalizing details of its first product released. McLaren MP4-12C comes with a perfect, innovation and technology.
New engine developed of the twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8 and the official numbers (592bhp and 443lb.ft of torque) suggest that the job’s been done well. McLaren hasn’t tied down the top speed or 0-62mph time as yet, but reckon on about 205mph and 3.4 seconds, which puts it on a par with the Ferrari 458 Italia. The MP4-12C should be a little lighter though, with a dry weight estimated at 1,300kg.
In addition, each MP4-12C will house an advanced infotainment system called ‘IRIS’. It’s a hard-drive based system with a host of features such as Bluetooth, wi-fi, USB connection and even the option of cameras and data acquisition for serious track day fiends.
According to the news I received, a new production facility is under way with the first cars due in 2011. Just 1,000 units will be produced in the first 12 months before new derivatives are introduced.
McLaren Automotive today launched the first in a series of short videos of broadcast quality, which provides a rare insight into the performance car testing program from the development team behind the new McLaren MP4-12C.
As a new car company, McLaren Automotive has a unique story and interesting to tell before the first model will be sold in spring 2011. Meanwhile, 2009′s intense testing and development program clearly demonstrate the potential of 12C and McLaren Automotive is a company that provides a rare record and insights that reveal plans, processes and challenges.
In a short film called ‘Inside McLaren: MP4-12C develop’, viewers take the first step to understanding how the McLaren Automotive will meet the ambitions to launch the MP4-12C as a genuine challenger to the world’s best high performance sports car. Highlights include:
* An introduction to the McLaren Technology Center (MTC) and MP4-12C test program by McLaren Automotive Technical Director, Dick Glover
* Chief Test Driver Chris Goodwin on how to 12C in the test under extreme conditions
* A summary of the senior engineers from developing an integrated approach roads and tracks around the world and, practically, back in the MTC
* 12C development (XP) prototype on the road and track in the UK and Germany, and extreme hot weather testing in Bahrain
A challenging and comprehensive development program has taken on some of the world’s most famous car racing circuit’s most inhospitable environments, from dry and cold, ice and snow the North Pole, for the hot and humid, the air wet-sand the Middle – East.
Combined with cutting-edge simulation program, the Formula 1 technical, personnel and processes, and thousands of miles from the ‘real world’ on-road driving in the UK is known poor asphalt surface, a close review team has taken giant steps in development through 2009 is 12C . The result is a ‘pure’ McLaren: a revolutionary high-performance sports car featuring a unique engineering solution to provide a new standard in comfort, driving dynamics, economy and performance in the ‘core’ * sports car market.
Having developed a variety of brand new car from scratch with the standards expected of McLaren, the ground-breaking show of new structures and powertrain is a major challenge, 12C able to push in 2010 and delivered to the McLaren car will be really proud.
The results of the test session’s road and track performance quickly assessed in the MTC. Simulation and engineering practices quickly – two core aspects of a successful Formula 1 team – and then re-used to calibrate the XP car in-situ tests are ready for the next day, or night, the target of development.
Chris Goodwin, a professional racer and chief test driver at McLaren Automotive, self-imposed pressure to conclude the development team: “McLaren are always set myself high standards. We are the most successful ever motor racing team, we design and build one of the world’s most icons sports car in the world in the McLaren F1, and pioneered the development of carbon fiber on race and road cars.
“We take these standards into the development program for MP4-12C to launch high-performance sports car compared to the past achievements and offers new levels of performance for the future. For us, this target is only a starting point and attitude development needs of the most comprehensive possible. We believe that our global test provides measures to 12C extraordinary. “
Other highlights:
* Simon Andrew (Vehicle Development Engineer) sends back a detailed daily report of all test sessions for McLaren Automotive personnel in various functions, not just another member of his team. This ensures that the full company engineers, designers and management can contribute their experiences.
* Rob Tyers is one of many team members were introduced by McLaren Racing division, bringing their experience in making quick decisions in a highly competitive environment for the bears who traditionally slow-industry. No other car company in the world and experiences offer a combination of motorcycle and car racing, road construction personnel under one roof.
* McLaren Automotive has developed a unique program that was inspired by the rapid development requirements of Formula 1. This unites the entire development team in one place for a period of up to two weeks. Major step obtained during this period of intense testing for all systems stretched to the limit of the car they were in combination and as a whole, not piece by piece in a sequence.
